Anderson Silva
Overview
***Current UFC Middleweight Champion***
Anderson Silva is a bit of an enigma in the world of Mixed Martial Arts; a highly talented and skilled fighter who simply doesn’t always bring his A-Game to a fight. While the lackluster performances haven’t been enough for anyone to topple the reigning UFC Middleweight Champion, they have made for some boring fights, and are the likely reason Silva has lost the best Pound-for-Pound fighter title.
With devastating strikes, an unbelievable chin, and a technically sound ground game, Silva is one of the best-versed fighters in today’s MMA world. Considering he hasn’t lost a fight since 2006, while fighting the very best fighters in the game, Silva is among the best pound-for-pound fighters in the UFC, and is considered one the MMA world’s all-time greats.
- Date of Birth – April 14, 1975 (Age 36) in Curitiba, Brazil
- Weight Division – Heavyweight: 6’ 2” tall; fights at 184 lbs
- Nickname – “The Spider”
Interesting Facts
Silva is a former professional boxer with a record of 1-1 in his native Brazil.
Silva holds the record for most title defenses without a loss –a record that currently stands at 9 straight wins.
Strengths
One of the best strikers in MMA, often unleashing a barrage of pinpoint punches, elbows, knees and kicks on his opponents, Silva has zero deficiencies in his stand-up game, being equally adept at close-quarters fighting, distance, and even in the clinch.
If Silva’s stand-up game lacks any holes, so does his ground skills. While not on display as often as his striking, Silva is a skilled grappler by all accounts –one of the reasons his opponents try to trade punches with him.
Weaknesses
As you can tell from the Strength’s Header, Silva doesn’t have very many weaknesses; in fact his only weakness may be his supreme confidence, and his poor game plans going into fights. With many boring fights, where Silva has underperformed, many people feel that eventually this will be the cause of Silva’s decline in MMA.
